Hey, listen! Did you know? CU has an artwork RSS Feed. It gives you tips for every new update here, and that means you don't have to get them from me!

Final Fantasy XIV pre-release trailer
Posted by David on August 27, 2010
As someone who invested a good 4 years in Final Fantasy XI, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of Final Fantasy XIV with a pre-ordered copy and a week of vacation to compliment it. After some hands on with the beta, I have to say it's looking to be a promising experience and a little tamer than it's predecessor (ie, it will let you keep your girlfriend). If you're not feeling the excitement yet, perhaps the newly released trailer will get you in the mood. And if that's not enough, open beta begins August 31, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT). Sratch that, new start date is Sep. 1, 2010 at 19:00 (PDT). FFXIV pre-release trailer
Metroid: Other M TV ad
Posted by David on August 19, 2010
Someone just tipped me about the Metroid: Other M TV ad that was just released on the Nintendo Channel. Taking a page from Microsoft's realistic Halo commercials, the spot features live action scenes mixed with computer effects. However, it also features Zero Suit Samus, which the Halo commercials do not. :P
If you're interested in the artwork released for the game so far, be sure to check out our Metroid: Other M art gallery.

DS touch controls, so easy a gorilla can do it.
Posted by David on August 7, 2010
We can now safely say the DSi XL is large enough for a gorilla's hands. One of the handhelds found its way into the gorilla enclosure at the San Francisco Zoo yesterday after a young boy dropped it. The device was quickly picked up by a curious primate, and a photographer caught some shots of what ensued, which can be seen at their blog and
Flickr page. No word on whether the DS was running Donkey Kong, but we're told it was retrieved and is still in working order.
The future of multiphysics

If you're a simulated physics nerd, animation modeler, or just plain like pretty things, take a look at the Lagoa Multiphysics 1.0 teaser created by Thiago Costa, whose credits include previous work on the series of short films for Assassin's Creed II. Here's hoping we'll see some of these physics find a place in future games. Lagoa Multiphysics 1.0 - Teaser
CU enters its eighth year
Posted by David on July 7, 2010
Today completes another year online, rounding out CU's growing age to a handsome seven. It was our strongest year yet, bringing in another cool 5 million visitors and 56 million page views, which accounts for almost 30% of our total traffic since launching in 2003. About 5 thousand images were added in the last year, and the crown for most popular gallery during that time goes to Final Fantasy XIII at just shy of a half million visits. Thank you visitors for another great year, and for all the feedback you provide! : )
Ni No Kuni RPG is playable art
Posted by David on June 24, 2010
Ni No Kuni, the product of a well-matched collaboration between Level-5 and Studio Gibli, is headed to the Nintendo DS this December in Japan. Portable Gibli goodness and Level-5 graphics wrapped in role-playing seems like an obvious win for sales, but even moreso with the recently announced PS3 version in development. Aiming to replicate Studio Gibli's distinct animation style, the PS3 version is said to feature different artwork, graphics, and story developments than its DS cousin, though the core story should be largely the same. The official trailer includes comparison scenes to show just how close the real time visuals will resemble Studio Gibli's work. Ni no Kuni: Shiroki Seihai no Joou Official Trailer
Vacations happen
Posted by David on May 23, 2010
A quiet week at CU usually means I'm either dead or on vacation. Fortunately this time it was the latter, getting used to my new camera with visits to the Tennessee Aquarium, Rock City, Ruby Falls, biking, hiking, rope-sliding and the likes. But vacation is over and work has resumed, so it's time to settle back into our regularly scheduled updates.
