Europe soon to receive PS3 TiVo abilities
he PS3 might not be first choice for best gaming console, but Sony is trying hard to make it the definitive entertainment center. From this week's Gaming Convention in Leipzig, Germany comes news that Sony will be introducing PlayTV for PlayStation 3. The technology offers a TV tuner and Personal Video Recorder, allowing users to watch and pause live TV, and record it to the hard drive.

PlayTV will be available in Germany, United Kingdom, France, Italy and Spain in early 2008, while additional PAL releases will follow later. The twin channel TV tuner peripheral can view and play back High Definition signals in full HD1080P. The PVR software allows programs to be recorded to hard disk for viewing at any time, or streamed to a PSP for remote viewing via Wi-Fi. You can also transcode video to the PSP for viewing from outside your home. Updates to PlayTV will be offered via the PlayStation Network so you won't feel out of date.

Presently, no announcement has been made for North America to see these features, but we're willing to bet that news isn't far on the horizon. Until then, we'll have to play a role reversal and endure the waiting game that Euro gamers are so familiar with.
