ony keeps rolling out the surprises at the Leipzig Games Convention. For Euro gamers at least. The latest announcement to come out of the game show reveals Go!Messenger, a voice and video chat service coming to the PSP early next year. After a firmware update and a small program download, PSP owners can use the new features over Wi-Fi anywhere in the world.
Users can get in touch with friends through instant messaging via an on-screen keyboard. Adding a headset expands your communication options to voice chat and leaving voice messages. And finally, attaching a Go!Cam lets you make video calls to your friends, or leave video messages for them.
These new features make the PSP a pretty slick piece of high-tech hardware, though one would think that connecting a Go!Cam to the handheld would make it rather hard to fit it in your Go!Pocket.
In partnership with BT, the Go!Messenger service will be available across Sony Computer Entertainment Europe territories in January 2008. Unfortunately no North American release date has been made known yet, so here's hoping Sony doesn't leave us in the dark on that for very long.
