OC ReMix offering free FFVII tribute album
fan-made music project that has been in the works for a year and a half has been announced for public release today. Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream pays respect to FFVII's 10th anniversary with 45 fan arrangements, hand-picked from the game's original score. Forty-two remix artists contributed to the album, resulting in a wide variety of styles ranging from hard rock, to jazz, to soft classical.

As a whole, the album is a pretty solid tribute to Nobuo Uematsu's work, and the product of much time and effort. However, on a personal note I can't help but feel the original magic has been lost from a number of tracks. The difference in arrangement quality is hard to miss throughout the album, as is to be expected with so many contributing artists. Still, the original arrangements by Uematsu left a lot to live up to, and in some ways can never be matched. FFVII: VotL is a good attempt, and at the low price of free is very much worth checking out.

Tracks are divided into four categories, each representing the theme of a different FFVII era, those being Crisis Core, Dirge of Cerberus, Advent Children, and Last Order. Total running time clocks in at three and a half hours of music. Tracks can be downloaded either single from a full page listing, or as a 2.32GB torrent of the complete album.
