New PSP selling like hot cakes in Japan
nheard of! After months of trailing behind DS sales, Sony's new slimmer, lighter, sexier PlayStation Portable is skyrocketing sales in Japan. The lure of new colors, enhanced features, and the promise of video output to TV has moved 326,645 units into consumers' hands in just 3 days, according to Enterbrain's data collection report. The total includes 250,702 standard units and 75,943 Crisis Core bundle units.

A number of major stores are facing sold out colors, namely black, white, silver and blue. Reports are also coming in of shortages for Capcom's Monster Hunter Portable 2nd, which enjoyed a huge boost from the number of new PSP owners. Accompanying the handheld's sudden success streak are several new promotional ads airing frequently on Japanese television, such as the one we've included below.

We'll have the full week's sales report up in a day or two in our weekly Japanese sales report, as soon as Media Create updates its site with the numbers.
