would have put the name in the headline title, but Square Enix likes its names long. Like miniature paragraph-long. The Little King and the Promised Country: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is the name of the game, as announced at the Nintendo Conference 2007 in Japan yesterday. That's right, it's a spin-off of a spin-off!
The game is being developed for the WiiWare download service. It will be available in March 2008 when the service goes live and will cost 1,500 Wii Points to download, at least in Japan.
The story takes place after the original Crystal Chronicles timeline, in an area of the world that the Crystal Caravans created. The king's land has been lost to the Miasma and he must rebuild it through the power of "Architecture", given to him by the crystal. It's like...Civilization meets Harvest Moon meets Final Fantasy.
Square Enix has launched a placeholder website in Japanese for the game, currently featuring a "coming soon" page with a piece of artwork. We also have these screenshots from Famitsu.
