DS achieves 20 million hardware sold in Japan

edia Create, our source for weekly Japanese video game sales, has announced that the Nintendo DS has passed the 20 million sales mark in Japan. The number includes sales of both the original DS and the DS Lite. First released on December 2nd of 2004, it has taken the handheld just a little under three years to reach the milestone.
Media Create says the DS has maintained 50.26% of the hardware market in Japan during its current lifetime. It has also sustained 40% of the software market with 83.95 million units sold. The two Brain Age games claim the largest share of that number with 8.35 million combined units, which accounts for 9.94% of all DS software sales.
The DS Lite was released in Japan in February 2006. Up to that moment, the original DS had managed 6 million in hardware sales in just over 14 months.
