Mario Galaxy sells 500k in US opening week
n internal sales report from Nintendo is putting first week sales of Super Mario Galaxy at 500,000 for the US. Not a bad number, considering it's twice as much as the game's 250,000 opening week for Japan. In fact, according to Nintendo's George Harrison, it's claimed not only the best one-week debut for any Wii game, but also the fastest selling Mario game of all time for first week sales.

From Nintendo's press release:

"Super Mario Galaxy had the strongest one-week debut of any Wii game to date and has also become the best-selling Mario title ever in its first week, with U.S. sales of more than 500,000, based on internal sales figures, [...] It makes an easy gift choice as the holiday shopping season kicks off."

Harrison is right about that, Super Mario Galaxy is sure to push the sales figure to even greater heights with the holidays rolling around. Combine gift wish lists with universal near-perfect review scores and a strong advertising compaign from Nintendo that's not letting up any time soon and it's looking like a Mario Christmas.
