Greenpeace rates Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft
nvironmental organization Greenpeace has released the sixth issue of its Guide to Greener Electronics, which assesses the cleanliness of business practices used by top electronics manufacturers around the world. The latest issue has expanded to include TV's and game consoles, resulting in Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft being evaluated. So how did they score?

Sony is looking pretty slick at third rank for best practices, showing improvement in freeing products of toxic PVC and advancements in recycling. A rather green score of 7.3/10.

Microsoft didn't fair so well, scraping in at sixteenth with a claimed long timeline for eliminating toxic chemicals and poor practices and policy for takeback. A total score of 2.7/10.

Nintendo failed to rank at all, landing a flat 0/10 in last place, a first for any company. Greenpeace faulted Nintendo for failing to specify a timeline for phasing-out toxics and for poor management in handling harmful chemicals, both internally and throughout the supply chain.

This comes as a rather sharp contrast to what we had previously reported from a Nintendo customer service representative. Perhaps shipping out a gazillion Wii's every month takes priority over running a cleanly business.
