When you create a new character for Final Fantasy XI you are permanently assigned a random server to play on. If you would like to join friends already playing the game or know a group of
people you intend to play with then you will have to get world passes to join the same server. A world pass may be purchased in-game with gil and you may only buy one for the world you are in.
The world pass is a 10-digit number which must be entered by the person who wishes to join that world. Upon completion of creating a new character you will have the option of entering the name of
a world to play in. Enter your desired server and you will be prompted for the pass. Passes must be used within one week and are good for up to 5 uses. Expect to pay usually between 1,500-1,900 gil
depending on the population of the server.
On very rare occasions, you might have the opportunity for a world migration. This allows you to request to leave your server and move to another one. However, you have no choice for your destination
server, it is decided for you.
